Willingness to pay for a new drug delivery in Parkinson patients

Lökk J, Olofsson S and Persson U

The study assesses the willingness to pay (WTP) of patients with Parkinson’s disease for microtablets of levodopa in combination with a drug-delivering electronic device (M/E) compared to standard treatment with levodopa in combination with the COMT (catechol-O-methyl transferase)-inhibitor entacapone (L/e). Randomly included patients with Parkinson’s disease were faced with three scenarios in which they were asked to choose what treatment they preferred and state their WTP for the same.

The authors conclude that both preference and WTP for M/E, compared to L/e, increase with treatment intensification and education as well as with expected increased reduction of Parkinson’s related symptoms.
