Thomas is an expert in cancer policy. His work revolves around the economic burden of cancer, emphasizing the wider societal consequences than just health care spending. Demonstrating the value of cancer patient access to new medicines is another key area of his work. He is an expert in conducting comparative analyses of health systems and cancer policies around the world. He has led several major international projects on cancer care in Europe, the Asia-Pacific region, and the Middle East and Africa.

Thomas’ research has been covered extensively in international media. He is a regular speaker at international policy events and workshops about cancer. He has also advised the European Commission and the OECD in their work with Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan.
