On June 16, pharmacist Richard Bergström was appointed to Sweden’s vaccine coordinator, which forms an important part of the vaccine strategy presented by the government on May 20. His appointment runs until 2022, and he will already present an initial interim report in August this year.
Richard Bergström has been a member of IHE’s board of directors for many years. He previously was the Director General of the European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industries and Associations (EFPIA) and he served for nine years as the Director General of LIF, the Swedish Association of the Pharmaceutical Industry.
Ensuring access to any future vaccine for Covid-19 has high priority for the government. The government has therefore produced a vaccine strategy consisting of three parts: the government’s further international work, a new vaccine coordinator and a commission to the Public Health Agency of Sweden to produce a national vaccine plan.
